Mon Mar 03 07:42:12 UTC 2025: ## Supreme Court Halts Investigation into Rape Case Against Seeman

**NEW DELHI, March 3, 2025** – The Supreme Court of India has temporarily halted the investigation into a rape case against Naam Tamilar Katchi (NTK) leader S. Seeman. The interim stay was granted on Monday following an appeal by Seeman challenging the Madras High Court’s refusal to quash the case.

The case, based on a 2011 complaint by an actor, has seen renewed attention recently. Seeman’s lawyers argued that the complainant had withdrawn the case and that the police investigation, initiated twelve years later, was politically motivated. They also indicated that informal discussions regarding compensation for the complainant were underway.

Justice B.V. Nagarathna, heading the Supreme Court bench, expressed the need for closure on the allegations. The court issued notices to the Tamil Nadu government and the complainant, and adjourned the case until May 2.

The Madras High Court had previously dismissed Seeman’s petition to quash the case in February 2025, ordering the investigation to be completed within 12 weeks. This led to police attempting to serve summons at Seeman’s residence, resulting in the arrest of a security guard and an aide after summons were allegedly torn. A pistol was also seized from the guard.
