**NEW DELHI** – A new report reveals a stark disparity between the number of women gamers in India and their representation within the industry’s workforce. While women constitute 44% of India’s 260 million-plus gaming audience, they hold only 12-14% of jobs in the sector, according to a joint study by the All India Game Developers Forum (AIGDF), Coral Recruit, and M-League.
The underrepresentation is even more pronounced in technical roles (6-9%) and leadership positions (under 10%). This imbalance highlights a significant missed opportunity, as the report emphasizes the business advantages of gender diversity, noting that diverse teams tend to be more financially and strategically successful.
Namratha Swamy, COO of Mobile Premier League (MPL), stressed the importance of including women not just as players but as decision-makers, designers, and industry disruptors. The report suggests several solutions to address this gender gap, including bolstering STEM education for women, implementing inclusive hiring practices, and providing mentorship and leadership training programs. The findings underscore the need for proactive measures to create a more equitable and representative gaming industry in India.
