Fri Feb 28 20:21:17 UTC 2025: ## Modi Celebrates Sufi Tradition at 25th Jahan-e-Khusrau Festival

**New Delhi, March 1, 2025** – Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated the 25th edition of the Jahan-e-Khusrau Sufi music festival in New Delhi on Friday, emphasizing the vital role of Sufi traditions in India’s pluralistic culture. Speaking at the Sunder Nursery event, Mr. Modi highlighted the shared heritage of Sufi music, quoting verses from Amir Khusrau, Rumi, Nizamuddin Auliya, and Raskhan to illustrate the unifying message of spiritual love found in both Sufi and Vedic traditions.

The Prime Minister drew parallels between Upanishadic thought and Sufi chants, noting that while the style differed, the underlying message of unity remained the same. He underscored the inclusivity of Sufi saints, who embraced diverse religious and cultural practices. Mr. Modi cited his past use of Rumi’s and Ghalib’s poetry in addresses to the Afghan parliament and during his visit to Iran, respectively, emphasizing the universality of Sufi ideals and their relevance to promoting peace in a world marred by conflict.

Mr. Modi also praised the restoration of the Sarkhej Roza Sufi center in Gujarat, a project he oversaw during his tenure as Chief Minister, and lauded the 25-year legacy of the Jahan-e-Khusrau festival, commending its founder, Muzaffar Ali, for preserving this cultural tradition. The event concluded with a Sufi recital, “Nazar-e-Krishna,” which Mr. Modi described as a perfect embodiment of India’s shared cultural heritage.
