**New Delhi, March 1, 2025** – The Delhi government announced a sweeping new initiative to combat air pollution, effective March 31, 2025. Vehicles older than 15 years will be barred from purchasing petrol at any fuel station within the city. Environment Minister Manjinder Singh Sirsa revealed the plan following a meeting focused on curbing vehicular emissions.

The government will install technology at petrol pumps to automatically identify non-compliant vehicles. Mr. Sirsa stated that the Delhi government will notify the Union Ministry of Petroleum of this decision.

Further measures announced include a mandate for all high-rise buildings, hotels, and commercial complexes to install anti-smog guns. Additionally, the government plans to replace approximately 90% of Delhi’s CNG public buses with electric alternatives by December 2025. These measures are part of a larger strategy to improve air quality in the city.
