Sat Mar 01 01:51:36 UTC 2025: ## Maharashtra Congress Accuses BJP of Electoral Fraud, Demands Probe

**Mumbai, March 1, 2025** – The Maharashtra Pradesh Congress Committee (MPCC) has launched a scathing attack on the BJP-led state government, accusing it of manipulating voter lists to secure victory in the recent assembly elections. The party alleges widespread electoral malpractice and has demanded a thorough investigation into the alleged irregularities.

MPCC president Harshvardhan Sapkal announced a statewide awareness campaign to expose what he termed an “unconstitutional and fixed government.” He claimed the BJP-led alliance, under Chief Minister Eknath Shinde, rigged the election, citing discrepancies in voter lists and an unprecedented surge of 40 lakh new voters between the Lok Sabha and state assembly elections – a number exceeding the total voter increase over the past five years.

Congress Working Committee member Gurdeep Sappal criticized the Election Commission’s delay in releasing voter data, questioning the six-month lag in providing basic information. Pravin Chakravarty, head of the Congress Data Analytics Department, further highlighted a 70 lakh vote increase for the BJP-led alliance between the Lok Sabha and assembly elections, while the MVA’s vote share remained consistent.

The Congress also criticized the silence of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Home Minister Amit Shah regarding their absence from the Kumbh Mela, contrasting it with their alleged commitment to Hindu traditions.

Adding to the controversy, the Congress condemned insensitive remarks made by State Home Minister Yogesh Kadam regarding a recent rape case, demanding his immediate dismissal.

Mr. Sapkal has also written to Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, criticizing exorbitant fees for high-security registration plates (HSRP), calling them a “Jizya” tax and highlighting significantly higher charges in Maharashtra compared to other states.

The Congress’s allegations have intensified the political turmoil in Maharashtra, with the opposition demanding action to restore public trust in the electoral process. The party vows to continue fighting for transparency and accountability.
