Sat Mar 01 03:40:00 UTC 2025: ## Twin Reports Highlight Stagnant Progress on Women’s Rights 30 Years After Beijing Declaration

**NEW YORK, NY** – Ahead of International Women’s Day on March 8th, two major reports will be released highlighting the uneven progress on women’s and girls’ rights 30 years after the Beijing Declaration and Platform for Action. The reports, released at midnight ET on March 6th at the UN General Assembly Hall, paint a concerning picture of persistent inequalities and setbacks.

The first report, “Women’s Rights in Review 30 Years After Beijing,” compiled from submissions by 159 countries, reveals a global backlash against gender equality, hindering the implementation of crucial policies, particularly those addressing gender-based violence. The report highlights the urgent need for action in the face of mounting global crises.

The second report, “Girl Goals: What has changed for girls? Adolescent girls’ rights over 30 years,” a joint effort by UNICEF, UN Women, and Plan International, focuses on the continued struggles faced by adolescent girls worldwide. Millions remain out of school, lack access to vital health services, and are at risk of harmful practices like child marriage and female genital mutilation.

Both reports will be launched at a special event moderated by ABC Eyewitness News Anchor Sade Baderinwa, featuring a performance by the Tony Award-winning musical *Suffragettes*. Spokespeople will be available for interviews in English, French, Spanish, and German (for the first report) and English and Spanish (for the second). The event will be livestreamed on UN WebTV, and in-person attendance requires registration by February 28th. Media accreditation for UN premises is also required. Further information, including explainer content and a social media package, are available online.
