Sat Mar 01 11:10:00 UTC 2025: ## Brook Favored to Replace Buttler as England White-Ball Captain

**LONDON, March 1, 2025** – Following England’s disappointing exit from the ICC Champions Trophy, Jos Buttler has resigned as white-ball captain. Sky Sports Cricket pundits are already speculating on his successor, with Harry Brook emerging as the frontrunner.

Former England captain Nasser Hussain believes Brook is the “obvious candidate,” citing his consistent performance and guaranteed place in both the ODI and T20 squads. Hussain argues that appointing Brook now allows him time to learn the captaincy role before facing a demanding schedule including an India home series, the Ashes tour, and the T20 World Cup. He dismissed the idea of an interim captain, suggesting England should look to the future.

Hussain also commented on Buttler’s resignation, noting the emotional toll of the captaincy, particularly given his recent dip in form and England’s poor performance in recent major tournaments. He believes Buttler’s focus should now shift to regaining his world-class batting form.

While Sky Sports’ Michael Atherton agrees that Brook is the favourite, he raised concerns about the potential workload for the multi-format player. Atherton suggested alternative candidates from outside the core multi-format group, such as Sam Billings or James Vince, might be considered if the workload proves too demanding for Brook. He also advocated for a clearer separation between England’s red and white-ball squads to manage player workload effectively.

The England Cricket Board is expected to announce its decision on a new captain soon. The upcoming schedule includes crucial Test series against India and Australia, making the choice of captain a critical decision for the team’s future success.
