Fri Feb 28 19:40:26 UTC 2025: ## CPI(M) and CPI Pledge Joint Fight Against Fascism, Dismiss Merger Speculation

**KOCHI, March 1, 2025** – The Communist Party of India (Marxist) [CPI(M)] and the Communist Party of India (CPI) reaffirmed their commitment to a united front against rising right-wing fascism in India, while downplaying the possibility of a merger between the two parties.

Speaking at the 75th anniversary commemoration of the Edappally police station attack in Kochi, CPI(M) State secretary M.V. Govindan emphasized the need for joint action against what he termed a “fascist agenda” driven by right-wing forces. He stated that while a merger between the CPI(M) and CPI is not off the table, the immediate priority is collaborative action to combat the influence of the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) on governmental bodies. Govindan highlighted the Edappally attack as a historical example of the Communist parties’ struggle for justice.

CPI State secretary Binoy Viswam echoed these sentiments, emphasizing the critical need for Left unity in the face of the right-wing’s rise and the Congress party’s alliances with the SDPI and Jamaat-e-Islami.

The event, jointly organized by both parties, served as a platform to showcase their united stand against what they perceive as a growing threat to democratic values in India.
