**New Delhi, March 1, 2025** – Union Home Minister Amit Shah emphasized the need for collaborative efforts between the central government, Delhi government, and Delhi Police to transform the national capital into an “ideal capital.” Chairing a high-level meeting on Friday, attended by Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta and senior officials, Shah stressed the importance of monthly meetings to ensure coordinated action.
The Minister highlighted the need for a “double-engine government” approach to improve Delhi’s safety and development, echoing Prime Minister Modi’s expectations. He directed Delhi Police to take strict action against networks facilitating the entry and settlement of Bangladeshi and Rohingya “intruders,” emphasizing the national security implications and the need for their identification and deportation.
Shah also called for stringent action against underperforming police stations and sub-divisions, suggesting the use of third-party surveys to gauge public satisfaction with police initiatives. He mandated a “ruthless approach” to eliminate interstate gangs and a comprehensive strategy – addressing narcotics from both the top and bottom of the supply chain. Significantly, Shah clarified that Delhi Police permission would no longer be required for construction-related matters in the city.
A pilot program involving the formation of 25 security committees in JJ clusters was also announced. The Delhi government was instructed to appoint special prosecutors to expedite the resolution of cases related to the 2020 Delhi riots.
Chief Minister Gupta, in a press briefing following the meeting, reiterated the commitment of the “double-engine government” to address Delhi’s challenges and assured 100% security for the city. The monthly review meetings will be crucial in ensuring coordination and progress.
