Fri Feb 28 14:00:00 UTC 2025: ## Avalanche Traps Dozens of Workers Near China Border in India

**Dehradun, Uttarakhand –** A devastating avalanche near the China border in Mana, Uttarakhand, has left at least 22 workers missing and feared dead. The avalanche struck a Border Roads Organisation (BRO) camp on Friday, trapping approximately 55 workers under the debris.

Rescue efforts, involving the Indian Army, Indo-Tibetan Border Police (ITBP), National Disaster Response Force (NDRF), and State Disaster Response Force (SDRF), successfully rescued 33 workers by Friday evening. However, heavy snowfall forced a suspension of the search operation. Rescuers plan to resume their efforts Saturday morning.

The trapped workers were employed by a company widening and asphalting a 50-kilometer stretch of highway from Mana to Mana Pass, a project overseen by the BRO. Three injured workers have been hospitalized.

The inclement weather, including heavy snowfall and fog, is significantly hampering rescue operations. The Badrinath Highway remains partially closed, hindering the movement of rescue teams and equipment. JCB machines have been deployed to clear snow from the highway, but progress is slow.

Authorities, including the District Magistrate, have urged all involved agencies to remain on high alert and prioritize restoring essential services, including road access and electricity. The situation remains critical, with the focus now on locating and rescuing the remaining missing workers.
