Sat Mar 01 03:19:36 UTC 2025: ## Polavaram Project Rehabilitation Delayed: Data Reconciliation Holds Up Grama Sabhas

**Dowleswaram, Andhra Pradesh – March 1, 2025** – The resettlement and rehabilitation (R&R) process for 14,000 families affected by the Polavaram project in Andhra Pradesh’s Alluri Sitharama Raju district has been delayed. The delay stems from the need to reconcile data from a 2023 socio-economic survey before seeking approval from village councils (Grama Sabhas).

The affected families, primarily Koyas and Konda Reddi tribes, reside in four mandals merged from Telangana after state bifurcation. These areas frequently suffer from Godavari River flooding.

According to Polavaram Project Administrator V. Abhishek, the December 2023 survey requires revision before finalizing the R&R package. Revenue authorities are currently undertaking data reconciliation. Grama Sabhas, initially scheduled for the first week of March, have been postponed until this process is complete.

Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu has reportedly requested a robust R&R package for approval by the Grama Sabhas. The delay underscores the complexities of ensuring fair and effective resettlement for the affected communities.
