Fri Feb 28 13:30:00 UTC 2025: ## Eight Dead in Sri Sailam Left Bank Canal Tunnel Collapse

**Kurnool, Andhra Pradesh:** A tragic tunnel collapse at the Sri Sailam Left Bank Canal project has claimed the lives of eight workers. The incident occurred when a section of the tunnel’s earth supporting walls caved in, trapping workers inside. Six of the deceased were laborers, and two were engineers.

Approximately 50 workers were inside the tunnel during the collapse. While 42 managed to escape, eight were trapped by the rapidly accumulating mud and debris near the tunnel boring machine (TBM). Despite the immediate deployment of the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) and other rescue efforts, heavy water flow and thick mud hampered rescue operations.

After three days of intensive search and rescue, hopes of finding survivors dwindled. Authorities ultimately located the bodies using advanced technology, confirming they were buried under approximately three meters of mud and debris. The retrieval of the bodies is expected to take additional time. The cause of the collapse is under investigation.
