Fri Feb 28 09:30:32 UTC 2025: ## Avalanche Traps 57 Workers in Uttarakhand; 16 Rescued

**Dehradun, Uttarakhand – February 28, 2025:** Fifty-seven labourers working for the Border Roads Organisation (BRO) were trapped under an avalanche near the border village of Mana in Uttarakhand’s Chamoli district today. The incident occurred while the workers were engaged in road construction near Badrinath.

According to Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami, a swift rescue operation involving personnel from the Indo-Tibetan Border Police (ITBP), the Indian Army, National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) and State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) is underway. As of this evening, 16 workers have been successfully rescued. Efforts continue to locate and rescue the remaining 41.

The BRO, a road construction force affiliated with the Indian Armed Forces, is providing support to the rescue mission. The Chief Minister expressed hope for the safe recovery of all trapped workers. Further details are awaited as the rescue operation progresses.
