Fri Feb 28 03:39:02 UTC 2025: ## Jio and Ericsson’s 5G Network Handles Record-Breaking Traffic During Maha Kumbh
**New Delhi, February 28, 2025** – Jio Infocomm Ltd (Jio) and Ericsson successfully managed an unprecedented surge in network traffic during the Maha Kumbh 2025, the world’s largest spiritual gathering, which attracted over 660 million people between January 13 and February 26.
The event saw exceptionally high demand for network services, particularly in Varanasi and Ayodhya, with peak daily usage reaching 20 million voice calls and 400 million data service requests. Ericsson’s 5G solutions handled an estimated 55% of the total data traffic.
This success was attributed to advanced technologies deployed by Jio and Ericsson, including network slicing, carrier aggregation using the 700 MHz band, and Voice over NR (VoNR). Real-time traffic monitoring, data analytics, and on-site optimization, supported by five on-field war rooms, were crucial in maintaining network performance and preventing congestion. Prioritized access for government agencies further aided in managing the immense traffic.
Vijay Sharma, Head of Customer Unit Reliance Jio at Ericsson, highlighted the successful handling of the massive data and voice demands, emphasizing the role of proactive measures, software solutions, and real-time monitoring in ensuring network reliability. The successful deployment ensured a smooth 5G experience for millions of users.
