**COIMBATORE, February 28, 2025** – Mahalingam Govindaraj, a distinguished alumnus of Tamil Nadu Agricultural University (TNAU) in Coimbatore, has been awarded the prestigious 2022 Borlaug Award (World Food Prize Borlaug Award for Field Research and Application). The senior scientist received the accolade for his groundbreaking contributions to agricultural research and sustainable crop improvement, specifically in biofortification.
The Borlaug Award, presented annually, recognizes individuals who have made significant advancements in global food security through innovative field research. Govindaraj’s work focuses on enhancing tropical crops such as millets, rice, and legumes – crucial for food security in many developing nations.
