Fri Feb 28 13:34:32 UTC 2025: ## Amit Shah Orders Crackdown on Illegal Immigration, Directs Delhi Police on Multiple Fronts

**New Delhi, Feb 28, 2025** – Union Home Minister Amit Shah has directed the Delhi Police to launch a major crackdown on networks facilitating the entry of illegal Bangladeshi and Rohingya immigrants into India, calling it a national security issue. This directive came during a meeting Friday reviewing Delhi’s law and order situation, chaired by Shah alongside Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta.

Shah emphasized the need for stringent action against poorly performing police stations and sub-divisions, and a ruthless elimination of interstate gangs operating in the city. He also demanded a top-to-bottom approach to dismantle narcotics networks. Illegal immigrants, he stressed, must be identified and deported.

Further directives included expedited disposal of 2020 riot cases through the appointment of special prosecutors by the Delhi government, and the removal of Delhi Police permission requirements for construction projects. The Delhi Police was also instructed to commence recruitment for additional posts, increase community engagement through public hearing camps, and establish new security committees in JJ clusters to improve women’s and children’s safety. Addressing traffic congestion, Shah urged the Delhi Police Commissioner and Chief Secretary to collaborate on swift solutions, and for the Delhi government to prepare a comprehensive monsoon action plan.

The meeting, attended by Delhi’s Home Minister Ashish Sood and Delhi Police Commissioner Sanjay Arora, also saw Shah highlighting the BJP’s recent victory in the Delhi Assembly elections. He asserted that the “double-engine” government will work towards a safer and more developed capital, fulfilling Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision.
