Fri Feb 28 05:51:21 UTC 2025: ## Pune Police Apprehend Rape Suspect After Drone and Canine Search
**Pune, Maharashtra –** A 37-year-old repeat offender, Dattaray Ramdas Gade, was arrested in Pune on Friday, February 28th, 2025, following an extensive manhunt involving drones and sniffer dogs. Gade was apprehended in a paddy field in his native Shirur tehsil after allegedly raping a 26-year-old woman on a state transport bus at Swargate bus station on Tuesday.
Police tracked Gade to his village after he was spotted requesting water at a local residence. A large-scale search operation, including 13 police teams and the deployment of drones and sniffer dogs, initially took place on Thursday in Gunat village. Although the night search was suspended, information from a local family led police back to the area, resulting in Gade’s capture.
Gade, a known history-sheeter with multiple theft, robbery, and chain-snatching convictions in Pune and Ahilyanagar, has been out on bail since 2019. He is expected to be produced in court later today. The arrest comes after a comprehensive investigation which involved tracking him down, despite his attempts to evade authorities by switching off his mobile phone.
