TIRUCHI, February 28, 2025 – A 100-day tuberculosis (TB) awareness and detection campaign in Tiruchi district has screened over 200,000 people, resulting in 810 confirmed TB cases. The initiative, part of the nationwide ‘Ni-kshay Shivir’ program under the ‘TB-Mukt Bharat’ (TB-Free India) initiative, began on December 7, 2024, and is scheduled to conclude on March 17.
According to Deputy Director Medical Services – TB, S. Savithri, 200,855 individuals were screened, with samples collected from 30,204. Various diagnostic tests were conducted, including microscopy (10,680), nucleic acid amplification tests (NAAT) (10,309), and chest X-rays (5,035). Nutritional support has been provided to 486 patients.
Awareness campaigns targeted vulnerable populations, including workers in small industries and markets. The public is urged to undergo testing if experiencing symptoms such as cough, fever, weight loss, or shortness of breath. The campaign aims to screen 364,092 individuals identified as at risk in the district.
