**Chennai, [Date]** – Tamil Nadu Chief Minister MK Stalin has launched a fervent appeal to the state’s citizens, urging them to actively resist what he terms a “language war” and an unfair delimitation exercise imposed by the central government. In a video message released on his birthday, Stalin accused the Centre of undermining Tamil Nadu’s interests despite claiming otherwise.
The conflict centers on the upcoming delimitation of Lok Sabha constituencies, expected next year. While Tamil Nadu’s population growth has been relatively controlled, the state is projected to gain only two parliamentary seats, a significant reduction that Stalin argues will diminish the state’s voice in national affairs. He decried this as penalizing states that have responsibly managed population growth.
The Chief Minister also voiced strong opposition to the three-language policy outlined in the National Education Policy (NEP), which he and his party see as an attempt to impose Hindi. He claims that this policy has already led to the withholding of funds allocated to Tamil Nadu. He further stated that the state’s two-language policy will remain unchanged.
This stance directly contradicts that of Tamil Nadu Governor RN Ravi, who echoed the Centre’s support for the NEP, highlighting its popularity and emphasizing the importance of providing youth with diverse language choices.
The discontent extends beyond Tamil Nadu. Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah has also expressed skepticism about assurances from Union Home Minister Amit Shah that southern states would not be disadvantaged by the delimitation process, calling the remarks vague and potentially deceptive.
To strategize a response, Stalin has invited 40 registered political parties to a meeting on March 5th to discuss the delimitation issue and other contentious matters, including the NEET medical entrance exam and the allocation of central funds. Stalin emphasized that this fight is not merely about numbers but about protecting Tamil Nadu’s rights and influence at the national level.
