Fri Feb 28 03:30:00 UTC 2025: ## Upset in South Bend: FSU Women’s Basketball Stuns No. 3 Notre Dame

**SOUTH BEND, Ind. (February 28, 2025)** – The Florida State Seminoles women’s basketball team pulled off a major upset Thursday night, defeating No. 3 Notre Dame 86-81 at Purcell Pavilion. This marks only the second victory for FSU over the Irish in program history and their first-ever road win against them.

The victory is also FSU’s highest-ranked win since defeating No. 3 Louisville in 2021. The Seminoles (23-6, 13-4 ACC) showcased a dominant performance fueled by stellar individual efforts. Ta’Niya Latson led the scoring with 23 points, a performance that saw her surpass 2,000 career points – making her only the third ACC player to reach this milestone in their first three seasons. Latson also broke the FSU all-time free throw record.

Makayla Timpson contributed a massive double-double with 22 points and 17 rebounds, her 15th of the season and 46th of her career. This performance also secured Timpson the FSU career rebounding record. O’Mariah Gordon added 15 points and three assists.

After trailing 23-14 at the end of the first quarter, FSU rallied in the second, hitting six three-pointers to take a 44-40 lead into halftime. The Seminoles maintained their momentum throughout the third quarter, but Notre Dame mounted a late comeback in the fourth, cutting the lead to a single point. However, crucial plays down the stretch, including a key basket and foul drawn by Timpson, sealed the victory for Florida State.

The Seminoles now turn their attention to their final regular season game, a matchup against No. 16 Duke on Senior Day this Sunday at 6 p.m. ET on ACC Network.
