**Bengaluru, February 27, 2025** – Karnataka Deputy Chief Minister D.K. Shivakumar has defended his attendance at the Maha Shivaratri celebrations at the Isha Foundation, sparking controversy within his own party. Shivakumar stated that the visit was a personal matter stemming from a personal invitation by Sadhguru, a Mysuru native, and reflective of his personal beliefs. He dismissed criticism, stating he wouldn’t respond to every social media post and doesn’t want the BJP or media to politicize his faith.
This explanation comes in response to criticism from All India Congress Committee (AICC) Secretary P.V. Mohan, who took to X to express disapproval, stating Shivakumar’s actions “damage the core” of the party and misleadingly suggest an alignment with the RSS’s narratives.
Shivakumar further emphasized his commitment to his faith, stating his attendance at various religious events regardless of public opinion. He cited his frequent visits to the Nonavinakere mutt and pointed out the diverse religious makeup of his constituency, highlighting his belief in inclusive politics that transcends caste and religion.
The Deputy CM vehemently denied rumors of him moving closer to the BJP, asserting his lifelong commitment to the Congress party and referencing the inclusive nature of Congress leadership, citing examples of past leaders celebrating various festivals. He reiterated his Hindu faith while emphasizing respect for all cultures.
