**Sacramento, CA** – Lawrence Gallow, 58, has been arrested in connection with a hit-and-run accident that critically injured Indian student Nilam Shinde in Sacramento, California. Gallow was apprehended on February 19th, five days after the incident which occurred on February 14th near Fair Oaks Blvd and Cadillac Dr.
Shinde, a postgraduate student at California State University, was struck from behind by a vehicle that fled the scene. She sustained severe injuries, including fractures in both arms and legs, and underwent emergency brain surgery. She remains in a coma in critical condition.
The Sacramento Police Department confirmed that following a thorough investigation, Gallow was arrested and charged with felony hit-and-run resulting in permanent injury. The university has issued a statement expressing concern for Shinde’s uncertain prognosis and has previously appealed for expedited visas for her family.
Following the accident, Shinde’s family faced delays in obtaining US visas to travel to her side. However, after intervention by the Indian Ministry of External Affairs, prompted by NCP leader Supriya Sule, her father and brother secured a visa appointment and are expected to travel to the US.
