**Beijing, February 28, 2025** – The Chinese Defence Ministry announced Thursday that both India and China are effectively implementing the agreed-upon resolutions to resolve the long-standing border standoff in eastern Ladakh. Spokesman Sr Col Wu Qian stated that the militaries of both nations are working comprehensively to de-escalate the situation. He added that China is committed to maintaining peace and tranquility in the border region and is prepared to collaborate with India to achieve this goal.
The statement follows the completion of the troop disengagement process late last year, resolving the last friction points in Depsang and Demchok. This breakthrough, ending over four years of strained relations, was solidified by a pact signed by both countries. Subsequent high-level talks between Prime Minister Narendra Modi and President Xi Jinping in Kazan, Russia, in October, led to the reactivation of various dialogue mechanisms. Further discussions between National Security Advisor Ajit Doval and Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi, and Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri and his Chinese counterpart Sun Weidong, have continued the process of normalizing bilateral relations.
India has consistently maintained that complete normalization of ties with China hinges on peace and stability in the border areas. The Chinese ministry’s statement suggests progress towards this objective.
