Fri Feb 28 05:25:46 UTC 2025: ## Jammu-Srinagar Highway Closed by Snow, Landslides; Heavy Snowfall Across Region

**Srinagar, February 2024** – The Jammu-Srinagar National Highway is currently closed due to heavy snowfall between Ramsoo and Qazigund, and landslides and shooting stones between Nashri and the Navyug Tunnel, stranding numerous vehicles near Jakhani in Udhampur. Authorities have halted all traffic beyond Jakhani until conditions improve.

A fresh spell of rain and snow, continuing for 36 hours, has impacted the region, causing significant temperature drops. Heavy snowfall has been reported in Doda and Bhalesa districts of Jammu and Kashmir, and in Lahaul and Spiti, where an avalanche alert has been issued for February 28th. The Border Roads Organisation is working to clear snow from the Srinagar airport runway.

While the highway closure and severe weather have caused disruptions, farmers in the area are welcoming the snowfall, viewing it as beneficial for crops, unlike previous spells that sparked concerns about financial losses. An orange alert for heavy rain and snowfall remains in effect until February 28th for four Himachal Pradesh districts: Chamba, Kangra, Kullu, and Mandi. Udhampur district in Jammu and Kashmir is expected to experience continued rainfall until the same date.
