**New Delhi, Feb 28, 2025** – The Employees’ Provident Fund Organisation (EPFO) has announced an interest rate of 8.25% on EPF deposits for the fiscal year 2024-25. This marks the highest rate in three years, exceeding the 8.15% offered in FY24 and 8.10% in FY23. The decision was made by the EPFO board. This is welcome news for millions of salaried employees in India. The lowest interest rate ever offered on EPF accounts was 8% in FY78, followed by 8.10% in FY22.
This announcement follows other positive developments for salaried employees. The recent Union Budget offered tax relief on income up to ₹12 lakh, effectively increasing the tax-free income threshold to ₹12.75 lakh with standard deduction included. Additionally, February saw a reduction in the repo rate by the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) by 0.25%, to 6.25%, resulting in lower loan EMIs.
