**NEW DELHI** – The Employees’ Provident Fund Organisation (EPFO) has announced that it will maintain the interest rate on provident fund deposits at 8.25% for the financial year 2024-25. This decision, announced Friday following a meeting of the Central Board of Trustees, affects approximately 70 million subscribers.

The rate remains unchanged from the previous year, following speculation that the board might retain the existing rate. The decision will now be sent to the Ministry of Finance for final approval.

The EPFO’s interest rate has fluctuated in recent years. It was 8.65% in 2018-19, 8.5% in 2019-20, 8.10% in 2021-22, and 8.15% in 2022-23. The highest rate in recent years was 8.8% in 2015-16.

The EPFO also reported a significant increase in claim processing. In 2024-25, 50.8 million claims totaling ₹2.05 lakh crore were processed, compared to 44.5 million claims worth ₹1.82 lakh crore in 2023-24. This increase reflects a growing number of subscribers accessing their funds.
