Fri Feb 28 09:51:57 UTC 2025: ## Chennai to Launch Unified Public Transport Ticketing App by April

**Chennai, India (February 28, 2025)** – Chennai commuters will soon enjoy a unified ticketing system for public transport, with the Chennai Unified Metropolitan Transport Authority (CUMTA) announcing the launch of a common ticketing app by April 2025. The app will integrate the Metropolitan Transport Corporation (MTC) buses, Chennai Metro Rail, and Southern Railway suburban train services, allowing for seamless travel across all three modes.

Initial delays were encountered due to securing necessary permissions from the Railway Board for fare integration, but approval was granted in December 2024. The app is currently in its final stages of development, with the MTC’s online ticketing system nearing completion. The Metro and suburban train services already offer online ticketing.

The launch follows the successful introduction of the Singara Chennai smart card by the MTC, which has proven popular with commuters. This card, allowing for electronic fare deduction, serves as a precursor to the comprehensive app and represents a significant upgrade to the city’s ticketing infrastructure. The Singara Chennai card is designed for use on buses and metros nationwide.
