**Thiruvananthapuram, February 28, 2025** – The Congress party’s central leadership has called for unity within its Kerala unit ahead of upcoming elections. Following a meeting in New Delhi on Friday attended by Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge, Leader of the Opposition Rahul Gandhi, and Kerala Congress leaders, AICC general secretary K.C. Venugopal emphasized the need for a unified front to defeat the ruling Left Democratic Front (LDF).
The meeting aimed to address recent internal disagreements and a controversy surrounding a podcast interview given by Thiruvananthapuram MP Shashi Tharoor. While acknowledging the “unfortunate developments,” the party leadership urged leaders to refrain from public statements or social media posts that could demoralize party workers. Rahul Gandhi reportedly praised the competence of Kerala’s Congress leaders but stressed the importance of capitalizing on anti-incumbency sentiment against the LDF government.
Although speculation of a leadership change existed, the meeting did not address this directly. While some concerns were previously raised regarding KPCC president K. Sudhakaran’s health, these were reportedly not discussed. Sudhakaran and Leader of the Opposition V.D. Satheesan both reportedly denied media reports suggesting a rift between them.
Furthermore, Gandhi reportedly requested that all leaders refrain from declaring themselves as potential chief ministerial candidates, emphasizing the need for collective leadership and avoiding internal conflict. Kharge added that praising Prime Minister Narendra Modi or the Kerala government would send the wrong message to party workers. The central leadership will continue to monitor the party’s activities in Kerala.
