Fri Feb 28 09:10:00 UTC 2025: ## Red Flag Warning Issued for Eastern Iowa Amid Strong Winds and Warm Temperatures

**CEDAR RAPIDS, IA – March 1, 2024** – A Red Flag Warning has been issued for much of eastern Iowa on Friday due to a high risk of wildfires. The combination of strong winds (gusting up to 45 mph), above-average temperatures (mid-50s to low 60s), and low relative humidity is creating ideal conditions for rapidly spreading fires.

The National Weather Service warns residents to exercise extreme caution with any potential fire sources. Outdoor burning, campfires, and discarding cigarettes are strongly discouraged. Those using outdoor machinery should take extra precautions.

The windy conditions will persist into the evening, shifting from southwesterly to northwesterly. While a cold front will bring increased cloud cover and possibly a few sprinkles Friday evening, the fire risk remains elevated throughout the day.

Temperatures will plummet overnight Friday into Saturday, reaching the low 20s with wind chills in the single digits. While Sunday will see a return of sunshine and temperatures in the 40s, the start of next week brings a chance of showers or a wintry mix, potentially impacting Monday morning commutes. Further rain and even storms are possible later Monday and into Tuesday. A transition to snow is possible later Tuesday night into Wednesday, potentially bringing accumulating snow and hazardous travel conditions. Stay tuned for updates.
