**Washington, D.C. – February 28, 2025** – The U.S. House Judiciary Committee issued subpoenas to eight major technology companies on Wednesday, demanding information about their interactions with foreign governments concerning censorship concerns. The targeted companies include Alphabet, Meta, Apple, X Corp, Amazon, Microsoft, Rumble, and TikTok.
Committee Chairman Jim Jordan, a Republican, stated the investigation aims to understand the extent to which foreign governments might be limiting Americans’ access to lawful speech within the United States. He cited examples of laws in the UK, other European countries, and a proposed Australian law that could force U.S. tech platforms to remove content deemed harmful by foreign regulators. The concern is that these foreign regulations could influence the content allowed on these platforms within the U.S.
Microsoft has confirmed its cooperation with the committee. The other companies have yet to publicly respond. The subpoenas seek detailed information on the companies’ compliance with foreign laws, regulations, and judicial orders.
