Fri Feb 28 06:27:06 UTC 2025: ## Allahabad High Court Orders Cleaning of Sambhal Jama Masjid

**Prayagraj, February 28, 2025** – The Allahabad High Court has directed the Archaeological Survey of India (ASI) to clean the premises of the Jama Masjid in Sambhal, Uttar Pradesh, ahead of Ramzan. However, the court rejected the mosque committee’s request to whitewash the mosque.

The order follows a plea by the Jama Masjid’s Committee of Management seeking permission for both cleaning and whitewashing. After an ASI inspection, which found the mosque’s interior to be in no need of whitewashing due to existing ceramic paint, the court ordered only the removal of dust and overgrown grass.

The court’s decision came after a Thursday hearing where the ASI was asked to submit a report on the mosque’s condition. Both the mosque committee’s lawyer and the state’s advocate general assured the court that the cleaning process would proceed without incident and that law and order would be maintained. The court’s reference to the mosque as “alleged masjid” in its initial order on Thursday has not been explained further in Friday’s ruling.
