Fri Feb 28 15:31:57 UTC 2025: ## Sri Lankan Play Sheds Light on Untaught Post-Colonial History
**Thrissur, February 28, 2025** – A new Sri Lankan play, “Dear Children Sincerely – 7 decades of Sri Lanka,” aims to fill a significant gap in the country’s education system by chronicling its untold post-colonial history. Director Ruwanthie de Chickera explains that contemporary Sri Lankan schools neglect the period following colonization, leaving younger generations unaware of crucial events shaping their nation.
The play, produced by Stages Theatre Group, covers seven decades of Sri Lankan history, from independence to the 30-year civil war and its aftermath. It utilizes the firsthand accounts of elders who lived through these pivotal moments, bridging the generation gap through live performance. The play’s creation stemmed from a 2015 research project, capitalizing on a period of political openness in Sri Lanka to examine past mistakes.
“Dear Children Sincerely” presents seven scenes, each depicting a turning point that irrevocably altered the nation’s trajectory. The director hopes the play will spark conversations within families, encouraging children to engage with their parents about the past and fostering a deeper understanding of Sri Lanka’s complex history. The play is scheduled to premiere at the ITFoK on March 2nd.
