Wed Feb 26 15:19:04 UTC 2025: ## India Successfully Test-Fires New Naval Anti-Ship Missile

**Chandipur, Odisha –** India successfully test-fired a new, indigenously developed naval anti-ship missile (NASM-SR) from the Integrated Test Range (ITR) in Chandipur, Odisha, on Tuesday. The Defence Ministry announced that the trials, launched from an Indian Naval Seaking helicopter, successfully demonstrated the missile’s capability to hit ship targets.

The missile, a first-of-its-kind for the Indian Navy, achieved a direct hit on a small ship target at its maximum range while flying in sea-skimming mode. A key feature of the test was the successful demonstration of the missile’s “Man-in-Loop” capability, allowing the pilot to receive live images from the missile’s indigenous imaging infra-red seeker and make in-flight adjustments. The high-bandwidth two-way datalink system facilitating this was also successfully tested.

Defence Minister Rajnath Singh lauded the Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) and the Indian Navy for the successful test. The NASM-SR was jointly developed by several DRDO labs, including Research Centre Imarat, Defence Research and Development Laboratory, High Energy Materials Research Laboratory, and Terminal Ballistics Research Laboratory. The successful test marks a significant advancement in India’s naval capabilities.
