**NEW DELHI, February 26, 2025** – A fire broke out at a PVR Cinemas movie theatre in Delhi’s Select Citywalk Mall on Wednesday afternoon, causing a brief period of panic among moviegoers. The incident occurred during a 4:15 pm screening of the film “Chhava,” according to witnesses.
Eyewitnesses reported that a corner of the movie screen caught fire, triggering the cinema’s fire alarm. Patrons initially believed the flames were part of the film before realizing the seriousness of the situation. A rush for the exits ensued as smoke filled the theatre.
The Delhi Fire Services received a call at 5:42 pm and dispatched six fire tenders. The fire, described as small, was contained within 13 minutes, at 5:55 pm. Delhi Police also responded to the scene after receiving a call at 5:57 pm reporting trapped individuals.
Thankfully, no injuries were reported. A spokesperson for Select Citywalk Mall confirmed the incident, attributing it to a short circuit in the adjacent multiplex, and stated that mall operations remained unaffected. The mall management is assisting the multiplex team and authorities in their investigation. While initial reports suggested some people were trapped, police and fire officials confirmed all patrons were safely evacuated.
