**Vellore, February 26, 2025** – Two men were arrested on Wednesday for setting fire to the Senganatham Reserve Forest near Vellore, Tamil Nadu. Forest officials apprehended J. Ifran (28) and J. Bhakith Basha (23) while they were collecting dry leaves and branches to fuel the fire within the prohibited area. Authorities seized ganja, cigarettes, petrol, and matches from the suspects, who were subsequently imprisoned at Vellore Central Prison. A probe into the incident is underway.
The arrests follow a recent surge in forest fires in the region. Vellore Collector V.R. Subbulaxmi issued a warning, promising strict action against anyone trespassing in the district’s six forest ranges to protect the environment and wildlife.
