**WASHINGTON, Feb. 21, 2025** – President Donald J. Trump today nominated retired Air Force Lieutenant General Dan Razin Caine to serve as the next Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff. The nomination requires Senate confirmation.
General Caine, a veteran pilot with over 2,800 flight hours, including more than 100 combat hours in F-16s, will succeed Air Force General Charles CQ Brown Jr., who is retiring after a four-decade career.
Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth praised General Caine, stating, “General Caine embodies the warfighter ethos and is exactly the leader we need to meet the moment.” He also lauded General Brown’s service, calling him a “thoughtful advisor.”

General Caine’s military career spans several assignments, including a period from 2009-2016 where he served part-time in the National Guard while also pursuing entrepreneurial ventures. His numerous awards and decorations include the Defense Superior Service Medal, Distinguished Flying Cross, and Bronze Star Medal.
