**Kozhikode, February 27, 2025** – The National Institute of Technology Calicut (NIT-C) launched a three-day skill development program on Geographic Information System (GIS) basics for urban planning on Wednesday. The program, organized by the Centre of Excellence in Urban Planning and Design (CoEUPD), aims to upskill participants in utilizing GIS tools for effective urban planning.

NIT-C Director Prasad Krishna inaugurated the program, emphasizing the crucial role of GIS expertise in modern urban development. He released the training manual developed for the course. The program, chaired by P.P. Anilkumar, Chairman of CoEUPD, includes both software-based hands-on sessions and a field visit to Kariathanpara for practical data collection. The program’s attendees will gain valuable skills in utilizing GIS software for urban planning applications.
