However, the seemingly ill-fated journey was actually a planned endurance test, according to automotive veteran and EVO India magazine editor Sirish Chandran, who was driving. Chandran clarified on Instagram that the Delhi-to-Pune road trip aimed to evaluate the 911’s performance on diverse Indian terrains. The car, initially showcased at the Auto Expo, was driven across a range of road conditions, from smooth highways to challenging, muddy stretches.
Chandran’s Instagram and Facebook posts detail the first day’s challenges, including heavy Gurgaon traffic, numerous speed breakers in Rajasthan, and varied road conditions. Despite the rough patches, the Porsche’s 20-inch front and 21-inch rear tires remained puncture-free, and the car sustained no damage. While the sports suspension provided a firm ride, the damping system ensured stability. The only significant issue reported was tyre noise, which occasionally overwhelmed even the premium Bose sound system.
Chandran highlighted the exceptional performance of the optional Rs 6 lakh HD-Matrix headlights, crucial for night driving on India’s often unpredictable highways. The journey included a stop in Jaisalmer, Rajasthan. The successful completion of the test demonstrates, according to Chandran, that while designed for high-performance, the Porsche 911 can navigate Indian roads with careful driving. The experience also underscored the importance of adapting driving techniques to suit varying road conditions.
