**Shimla, February 27, 2025** – Himachal Pradesh is experiencing heavy rains and snowfall, with several districts under an orange weather warning. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued the alert for heavy to very heavy rains and snow in Mandi, Kangra, Kullu, and Chamba districts for Thursday and Friday. A yellow alert has been issued for heavy snow in Lahaul and Spiti and heavy rain and snow in Shimla district during the same period. Una and Hamirpur districts are also expected to receive heavy rainfall.
Significant snowfall has already been reported, with Keylong receiving 20 cm, Khadrala 12 cm, and other locations reporting varying amounts. Rainfall totals varied across the state, with Sarahan recording the highest at 29.1 mm. Tabo recorded the lowest temperature at -4.5 degrees Celsius.
The state has seen a 61% rainfall deficit during the winter season (January 1 – February 27), receiving 70.4 mm against a normal of 181.7 mm. The IMD’s warnings highlight the potential for further disruptions and advise residents to take necessary precautions.
