Thu Feb 27 03:44:44 UTC 2025: ## South Korea: North Korea Redeploys Troops to Russian Frontline in Kursk
**Seoul, South Korea** – North Korea has redeployed soldiers to the Russian frontline in Kursk, according to South Korea’s National Intelligence Agency (NIA). The NIA confirmed on Thursday that troops previously withdrawn from the region in mid-January, after suffering heavy losses according to Ukrainian reports, have returned. Further troop deployments to Russia are also underway, although the exact number remains unclear.
This follows previous reports indicating that over 10,000 North Korean soldiers were sent to Russia last year to support its war effort against Ukraine. Earlier this month, Seoul reported that these soldiers were no longer actively engaged in combat. Neither Moscow nor Pyongyang have publicly acknowledged the troop deployments. However, a mutual defence agreement was signed between Russia and North Korea following President Putin’s visit to the reclusive state last year. The NIA’s statement indicates a continuing military cooperation between the two nations despite earlier reports of troop withdrawals.
