**VAN HORN, TX** – Pop sensation Katy Perry will be reaching for the stars this spring, literally. Blue Origin announced Thursday that the singer will be part of an all-female crew embarking on its next suborbital spaceflight aboard the New Shepard rocket. This mission marks a significant milestone, representing the first all-female crewed spaceflight since Valentina Tereshkova’s solo mission in 1963.
Joining Perry on the approximately 10-minute journey will be a distinguished group of women: journalist and Blue Origin owner Jeff Bezos’ fiancée Lauren Sanchez; CBS Mornings co-host Gayle King; research scientist Amanda Nguyen; former NASA rocket scientist Aisha Bowe; and film producer Kerianne Flynn.
The flight, launching from Blue Origin’s West Texas facility, will take the crew beyond the Karman line, the internationally recognized boundary of space, allowing them to experience several minutes of microgravity. While ticket prices remain undisclosed, it’s common practice for celebrities to receive complimentary seats.
This mission continues Blue Origin’s program of launching both wealthy tourists and celebrities into suborbital space, a venture that has already carried 52 people on 10 missions since 2021. Past passengers include Star Trek icon William Shatner and Bezos himself.
Beyond this exciting passenger flight, Blue Origin is actively expanding its space ambitions. The company recently successfully launched its New Glenn rocket for the first time, marking a key step in its commercial launch endeavors. Furthermore, Blue Origin holds a NASA contract for a lunar lander for the Artemis missions and is developing Project Kuiper, a satellite internet constellation. Bezos’ vision, in contrast to Elon Musk’s Mars colonization plans, focuses on shifting heavy industry to space platforms to protect Earth.
