**Sacramento, CA –** Nilam Tanaji Shinde, a 35-year-old Indian student studying at California State University, is fighting for her life after a hit-and-run accident on February 14th. Currently in a coma at UC Davis Medical Center in Sacramento, Ms. Shinde suffered critical injuries to her arms, legs, head, and chest.
The accident occurred during an evening walk, with the vehicle fleeing the scene. Ms. Shinde’s family, who learned of the incident two days later from her roommate, is now desperately seeking the Indian government’s assistance to obtain urgent US visas.
The hospital requires the presence of a blood relative to authorize necessary surgery, citing life-threatening risks. Ms. Shinde’s father, Tanaji Madhav Shinde, reports that visa applications have been pending since February 16th, hindering their ability to reach their daughter’s side.
While the driver responsible has been apprehended, legal complexities are delaying the formal filing of charges due to the absence of Ms. Shinde’s family.
There has been a reported improvement in Ms. Shinde’s condition. Her uncle, Sanjay Kadam, informed NDTV that her brain and blood pressure have normalized, although she remains in a coma. The family is pleading for expedited visa processing to allow them to support Ms. Shinde during her critical recovery.
