Wed Feb 26 04:11:15 UTC 2025: ## Kalaburagi Scientists Link Cosmetics, Herbicides to Reproductive Issues
**Kalaburagi, Karnataka, February 26, 2025** – Research conducted at Sharnbasva University has revealed a disturbing link between certain cosmetic and herbicide chemicals and reproductive harm. Scientists B.D. Vishwajit and Mahesh Tanwade, in the final stages of their doctoral research, found that Isobutyal Parabal (in some cosmetics) and Phenyl Mercuric Acetate (in herbicides) cause endocrine disruption and hormonal imbalances in rats and mice. These imbalances led to infertility, irregular menstrual cycles, and in some cases, cancer.
The study, conducted using the university’s newly established Animal House (the first of its kind in the Kalyana Karnataka region, funded by the Union government), involved a two-generation study of the animals’ sexual behavior. Previous research indicated that even low exposure to Isobutyal Parabal (27 MG/KG/day via dermal contact) can cause similar problems in humans.
The Animal House, established at a cost of ₹13 lakh, has proven to be financially successful, generating ₹1.20 lakh in revenue in 2024 through the sale of animals to other institutions. The findings of this research highlight potential serious health risks associated with the use of certain cosmetic and herbicide products.
