**PARIS, FRANCE** – French police fatally shot a man armed with two knives in the northeastern Paris suburb of Dugny on Wednesday, February 26, 2025. According to police reports, officers encountered the man sitting at a bus stop around 7:00 am local time. When they approached, he lunged at them without warning. An attempt to subdue him with a taser proved unsuccessful, leading to an officer firing their service weapon, striking the man in the chest. Despite receiving CPR, the man died at the scene.
Both local police and the IGPN, the inspectorate responsible for investigating police misconduct, have launched investigations into the incident. This follows a separate stabbing attack in Mulhouse on Saturday, where a 37-year-old Algerian-born man, who was undocumented and facing deportation, allegedly killed one person and injured several police officers. The IGPN reported 36 deaths as a result of police action in France in 2023. The circumstances surrounding Wednesday’s shooting are under scrutiny.
