**Erode, Tamil Nadu, February 27, 2025** – Following a suspected leopard attack that killed a goat in Chennimalai, Tamil Nadu, the Forest Department has issued a warning to residents urging them to relocate their goat sheds. The incident occurred on February 21st when a farmer discovered one missing goat and another dead with bite marks consistent with a leopard attack. Footprints confirmed the presence of a leopard near the shed.
The department has distributed pamphlets highlighting that the Chennimalai Reserve Forest, a wildlife corridor for tigers, leopards, deer, and other animals, serves as a transit route for predators. While these animals don’t permanently reside in the area, the proximity of domesticated goats makes them easy prey, potentially leading to predators establishing themselves permanently and increasing human-wildlife conflict.
To mitigate this risk, residents are advised to relocate their goat sheds away from the forest boundary. They are also encouraged to use electric lights at night and limit their outdoor activities after dark. The Forest Department is taking proactive steps to prevent further incidents and ensure the safety of both humans and wildlife.
