**NEW YORK, NY** – Former CBS News investigative reporter Catherine Herridge has released photos of confidential files seized by the network following her dismissal last February. The files, which Herridge says included sensitive reporting on the origins of COVID-19 and Hunter Biden, were reportedly held for a year before being returned.
Herridge, who describes the network’s actions as a “journalistic rape” and an “attack on investigative journalism,” shared images on X (formerly Twitter) showcasing the extensive volume of materials – four large boxes weighing over 100 pounds – that were taken. The photos show stacks of folders next to a Home Depot box.
The incident, which prompted a House Judiciary subcommittee hearing last April, involved Herridge’s refusal to disclose confidential sources, leading to a contempt of court charge. The files were ultimately returned following pressure from SAG-AFTRA, the actors’ and media professionals’ union.
Herridge’s accusations highlight ongoing tensions surrounding journalistic ethics and editorial decisions at CBS News. She previously clashed with network executives over her reporting on Hunter Biden’s laptop, claiming that CBS delayed airing her findings until after the 2020 election, despite possessing evidence including a million-dollar retainer from a Chinese energy firm. She expressed disappointment that “60 Minutes” initially described the laptop’s contents as unverifiable.
This controversy comes amidst other criticisms leveled against CBS News. A recent lawsuit filed by Donald Trump against CBS and parent company Paramount alleges deceptive editing of a “60 Minutes” interview with Vice President Kamala Harris, resulting in a $20 billion damage claim. While Trump and Paramount have agreed to mediation, the ongoing legal battle further underscores the network’s facing scrutiny over its editorial practices. Herridge’s case adds another layer to these ongoing concerns about journalistic integrity and potential bias within the news organization. CBS News declined to comment on Herridge’s allegations.
