Wed Feb 26 16:47:30 UTC 2025: ## Congress Demands Probe into Delhi Excise Policy After CAG Report Reveals ₹2,000 Crore Loss
**New Delhi, Feb 26, 2025** – The Delhi Congress party has demanded a thorough investigation into the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) government’s 2021-22 excise policy following the tabling of a Comptroller and Auditor General (CAG) report in the Delhi Assembly. The report revealed cumulative losses exceeding ₹2,000 crore due to policy flaws and implementation deficiencies.
Delhi Congress chief Devender Yadav and senior leader Sandeep Dikshit called for the immediate formation of a Public Accounts Committee (PAC) to examine the report. They also urged a broader investigation into alleged BJP involvement. Yadav specifically questioned the changes in Excise Directors and the promotion of certain liquor brands, demanding scrutiny of the then Lieutenant Governor’s role in approving the policy. He further highlighted the MCD’s role in licensing liquor shops, given the BJP’s control over the MCD at the time.
Dikshit pointed to the report’s findings that the government prioritized liquor brands from Punjab, contradicting consumer preferences, and that the policy’s objectives were repeatedly altered. He alleged links between the 14 entities ultimately selected and AAP government officials.
The Congress’s call for a wider investigation comes as the BJP’s newly elected Chief Minister Rekha Gupta tabled the CAG report on Tuesday. The Congress is demanding that the remaining 13 CAG reports on the AAP government’s performance be similarly tabled.
