**Mysore, Karnataka –** The Vice-Chancellor of the University of Mysore, N.K. Lokanath, expressed concern over declining reading habits among students at the inauguration of “En Samachara – Media Habba 2025” on Thursday. The event, organized by the Department of Information and Public Relations, Karnataka Media Academy, and the University’s Department of Journalism and Mass Communication, highlighted the challenges facing the media landscape.

Lokanath emphasized the crucial role of reading in developing strong writing and analytical skills, particularly for journalism students. He noted the significant changes in modern journalism, characterized by a focus on single topics and the need for innovative perspectives and in-depth analysis.

Speakers also addressed the growing problem of fake news on social media and the urgent need to combat its spread. Karnataka Media Academy president Ayesha Khanum highlighted the declining public trust in journalism and urged young journalists to prioritize credibility. She also called for increased collaboration between the academy and the media to foster discussions on important issues. The event was attended by various dignitaries from the media and academia.
