Thu Feb 27 14:32:41 UTC 2025: ## Delhi Sizzles: Warmest February Night in 74 Years

**New Delhi, February 27, 2025** – Delhi experienced its warmest February night in 74 years on Thursday, with the minimum temperature at Safdarjung reaching a record high of 19.5 degrees Celsius. This surpasses the previous record of 19 degrees Celsius set on February 25, 2015, according to the India Meteorological Department (IMD). Data prior to 1951 is unavailable.

The IMD attributed the unusually high temperature to a cloudy sky, which, while keeping the maximum temperature at a relatively low 25 degrees Celsius (1.1 degrees below the normal average), prevented significant overnight cooling. This follows Wednesday’s record high maximum temperature of 32.4 degrees Celsius.

Despite the record-breaking warmth, Skymet Weather Vice President Mahesh Palawat anticipates a temperature drop starting today, stabilizing until around March 3 or 4. A new western disturbance expected in the first week of March, coupled with snowfall in the hills, is predicted to shift wind patterns. Palawat further predicts the end of Delhi’s winter season around March 10.

The IMD forecasts a thunderstorm with rain for Friday, with temperatures expected to fall to a maximum of 23 degrees Celsius and a minimum of 16 degrees Celsius.

Meanwhile, air quality remains a concern. The 24-hour average Air Quality Index (AQI) was recorded at 215 at 4 PM, placing it in the “poor” category according to the Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB).
