**Bucharest, Romania –** Controversial social media influencers Andrew and Tristan Tate have left Romania for the United States after a travel ban was lifted, a Romanian Ministry of Internal Affairs official confirmed Thursday. The brothers, who face charges of human trafficking and forming a criminal gang to sexually exploit women, were allowed to depart at the discretion of prosecutors.
The Tate brothers, dual U.S.-British citizens, were arrested in late 2022 alongside two Romanian women. While all four were formally indicted last year and a trial was approved by the Bucharest Tribunal, no date has been set. They deny all allegations.
The brothers’ departure follows comments from Romanian Foreign Minister Emil Hurezeanu regarding a U.S. official’s expressed interest in the case at the Munich Security Conference. While the minister denied any pressure, the timing of the travel ban’s lifting has raised eyebrows. Further complicating the matter, a December court ruling in Bucharest found multiple legal irregularities in the prosecution’s case, delaying the trial. However, the case remains open, with a separate legal case also pending against the brothers in Romania.
